Recap: Cotton Fest 2024 Was Bigger And Better

By @Okayswisher on 04/08/2024 in News

The fifth year of Cotton Fest did not fail to deliver as the 2024 edition felt like it had one of the biggest attendances and liveliest crowd since the festival started. The drip was on point too as fashion lovers thrived at a place where their style is celebrated.

The day began with the weather being sunny with high chances of rain. The lineup was full of stars from Amapiano hitmakers, Leemckrazy, Tman Xpress and Hip-Hop artists A-Reece and Nasty C. Fans of both genres were spoilt of choice with The Lot side filled with up-and-coming Amapiano acts. The Bunker stage had the craziest atmosphere as when it rained the spectators filled that side. The main stage onlookers had zero problem with the showers of water pouring as Maglera Doe Boy killed his set as it poured.

Bunker Stage Won The Night

The performances from the Bunker Stage were ones not to miss with Hip-Hop being the staple genre for Cotton Fest. It truly was a jump. Usimamane, K.Keed, Tony Dayimane, Tyson Sybateli and several others gave standout performances. The roof nearly collapsed when Usimamane’s hit ‘Cheque’ was played not once, not twice but three times with spectators not getting enough of the Umlazi wave.

The Lot brought Amapiano

The Lot side was equally as impressive with Lula Odiba doing a brilliant job of MC’ing. The rain fell onto the unfazed fans who, instead of running for cover, opened a circle to dance. Electrifying performances came from the likes of Chley, Ice Beats Slide, Ggoldie and more.

The Main Stage was eventful

The main stage MCs, Lerai and Moozlie, were oozing with energy as the transition from artist to artist went smoothly. The afternoon performances were lit with Nannete, Marcus Harvey and The Big Hash performing their sets as the venue was still filling up, but still gave a great show.

By the time Emtee jumped on, the main stage would be completely full. Robot Boii killed his set by bringing in his ’Team Robot’ crew to light up the stage with their dances.

Riky Rick, Costa Titch and AKA tributes

The audience was treated to Riky Rick’s BET Hip Hop Award Global Visionary Award which was handed over to his widow Bianca Naidoo. Costa Titch was also celebrated as a slot was allocated his hits played while having his videos played on the big screen. After, AKA’s hits were played to a crowd that rapped every word.

Young Stunna would rock the main stage at the time when it was drizzling. It would pour after his last song welcoming Maglera Doe Boy to a soaking crowd. Maglera and his team would rightfully rock the stage with the Klerksdorp born rapper having the craziest stage presence. Dbn Gogo brought the Amapiano vibes afterwards with her song ‘Funk 55’ making the crowd shake.

‘The Run’ produced by multifaceted NotBenjamin was how A-Reece walked into the stage. The smokescreen and the fires were now returned due to the rain stopping and the boy fully lived up to his name as he shut it down. The best was left for last as Nasty C would be the second last act of the night leaving it to DJ Maphorisa to wrap up what was an amazing event.
