MAXHOSA africa is a South African knitwear brand founded in 2010 by Laduma Ngxokolo. This was with the desire to explore knitwear design solutions that would be suitable for amakrwala (Xhosa initiates).
This past weekend, creatives and the Makhado family came together to honour the late South African hip-hop giant, Riky Rick by celebrating the launch of the tribute ALKEBULAN AW/SS 2022 collection.
"As part of our recent MAXHOSA Alkebulan show we honoured one of our greatest patron, loving friend and brother whom we deemed as The Father of the Youth. RIKY asked me to design him all black MAXHOSA looks for a while, which was the last conversation we had for two hours at 4am????. I never got the chance to do that for him then (wish I never over thought it), God planned otherwise. Consequentially, I ended getting a request from his family to design an all white outfit for his final sent off to a better world (probably the most difficult task I ever had to carry out, cause King Kotini was a fashion maverick).
