South African based pioneering streetwear brand BUTAN has gained steam in an unprecedented time, adding Sportscene to its list of national stockists. The brand is set to launch in ten (10) of the group’s premium doors with expansion and wider rollout in the near future. Sportscene (a TFG store) has a massive footprint across the SADC region and with the inclusion of BUTAN, customers will get an offering of a true homegrown streetwear brand.
With an impressive 20 year run, BUTAN promises to deliver the quality it has been known for. Its authentic African storytelling through garments as expressed in various ranges and capsules, along with firm favourites such as the season staple Connections (logo) T-shirt.
The brand name BUTAN, is derived from the rearrangement of the letters in the word BANTU (People), it pays homage to our roots and heritage while the rearrangement of the letters signifies a changed, entirely new mindset and outlook on life in contemporary South Africa (stripping away negative connotations of the word from the apartheid regime). Butan has its roots in hip hop culture and has been seen on the likes of Kwesta, Pearl Thusi, Ayanda MVP, Sho Madjozi, Emtee, Rolo Rozay, Dj Meech, Proverb, Tshego Koke, Gigi Lamayne, Tarryn ‘TNT’ and a host of other notable personalities locally as well as internationally.
From Friday 12 February, be sure to make your way to Sportscene to shop your favourite African streetwear brand and be a part of the ever-growing #ButanFam.
