Cap City's Motswakolista, Chad Da Don has dropped his EP, Ducking Problems, and it's blaring in sound. He pulls up with the highest of energy on this project, showing some deliberate sonic evolution from his previous piece, The Book Of Chad.
He opens the project with two familiar tracks in Fede, and the lead single alongside Kid X, Da Money. He then drifts you into consistently uptempo joints from hereon as he asserts his flexibility and lyrical prowess. You can almost hear that he's in a better place through the music on this EP as he exudes a carefree aura of sort. Chad is not concerned about trying to prove himself with this body of work, he's merely letting us into his world as it is right now. With features like Priddy Ugly, Farx, Chang Cello, Focalistic, and Melo Moore, you derive Chad's preference for working with somewhat underrated gems. The best apart about it is that he has incredible musical chemistry with every artist on the project which is a bonus for your listening experience.
The title track, Ducking Problems, embodies the very mood of the EP as Chad blatantly puts his, "No f**ks given" badge on. I can't get over how effortless Chad's multiple flows are on this project. Not to act surprised that he's this seasoned, however, it's refreshing to see him take a step out of his heavy Motswako influence to seamlessly blend it into the current sound wave without sounding like he's missing something. The sounds on this EP are quite fitting of the global sound wave, with a touch of finesse. You will love the swing in Zaka which has an addictive low buzzing synth and some catchy 808s. What you will also love is Focalistic's minimalistic approach to the song which makes it that much smoother. The project closes with The Best, a statement of who he is - in case you forgot. Here he asserts himself as a rapper's rapper by toning down the heavy trap influence for a bounce stemming from Warren G and Nate Dogg's Regulate. There's something in him sampling such a culturally monumental track to embody his message, sheer power.
Ducking Problems is certainly a fun project to tap into. You need to take it with an open mind and receive what Chad brings you without pre-set expectations of what you want to hear from him, you will enjoy it best this way. It's a "TLEAN" effort and you should cop it below:
