Usimamane: “Durban is the new ATL”

By @Okayswisher on 08/15/2024 in Features

Asked why Durban rappers seem to have that magical touch, Usimamane attributed it to sauce and made the comparison between Durban’s Hip-Hop scene and ATL (Atlanta), the city that’s been running Hip-Hop in the US since the mid-2000s.

“We slimes,” Usimamane said after the filming of his Red Bull 64 Bars Freestyle. “Sauce is when you not doing too much. I usually say Durban is the new ATL because every new upcoming ATL rapper be like getting the bars and everything and when you pay attention, he’s really good like that. And when you peep it closer, he’s not doing too much. I feel like the sauce of not doing too much is what we have. We are slimes, we not too serious about it even though we taking it serious. We just having fun with it.”
