After three years in the making, Tyla’s highly anticipated self-titled debut album is finally out.
The 14-track oeuvre comprises contributions from Kelvin Momo, Skillibeng, Gunna, Tems, Becky G and Travis Scott.
According to Tyla, the album serves as a blend of genres including Pop, R&B, Amapiano and Afrobeats. ‘TYLA’ is described as a “coming-of-age chronicle through love, heartbreak and self-discovery.”
Tyla told Apple Music that the album is about things she has gone through amidst her transition to becoming a woman.
“I was becoming a woman, so it was a lot of growing that happened, and me realising my worth, and realising how I want to be treated - and how basically I’m that girl, and people need to know I’m that girl.”, she affirmed.
Tyla announced the release of her album late last year. She gradually intensified anticipation for its drop by dropping teasers on socials, countdowns, as well as music videos.
Last week, she unveiled the official music video for ‘Water (Remix)’ alongside Travis Scott, and recently followed it up with visuals for her new single ‘ART’.
