Following the November release of the Amapiano-infused Kwaito and Gospel record 'Sonini', Entertainment Specialist, S’BO GYRE has collaborated with Mafikeng-based producer, LTO to release 'Bounce'.
The Back To The City history maker, formerly known as Gyre, pens and delivers a record that is a bold statement of self-affirmation and personal triumph. The slick bars, performed with the signature English and isiZulu bravado he is known for, are adorned by a gritty and mature swagger, ferocity and wisdom.
A sonic ode to early 2000s Hip-Hop with a classic trap-feel, 'Bounce' is rap connoisseur’s delight. Pulling from a person struggle with mental health that almost saw the sole Hip-Hop Picnic performer take their own life, the song is takes a poignant story into one of perseverance and triumph.
“I felt compelled to big myself up in this record as I had in my real life because I wanted to transmit the courage I felt to anyone who listened,” S’BO GYRE explained.
The second verse in particular reads and sounds like a sermon of sort and highlights the need to continue to broaden the conversation of mental health in Hip-Hop.
“Failure isn’t the end but really the start of greatness. There isn’t a heroic tale that doesn’t begin with setbacks. Bounce is intended to remind people of this.”
Harking on the old-age tradition of sampling, LTO’s production is beautifully matched by S’BO GYRE’s enchanting cadence in the verses and chant-like hook to create the perfect pick-me-up song.
