Recap: Cassper Nyovest And Sprite Limelight Unite To Celebrate 50 Years of Hip-Hop

On Thursday night, we attended the Sprite Limelight’s 50 years celebration of Hip-Hop in collaboration with Cassper Nyovest at a secret location in Joburg. 

A few weeks ago, Cassper Nyovest shared on socials that he was part of the second year of Sprite’s global music programme, Sprite Limelight.

The programme brings together four diverse international artists to create music in a unique format that sees one hook used on several different beats. 

Cassper Nyovest is the selected artist from South Africa amongst a line-up of three other artists hailing from across the world and, to celebrate in style, Sprite hosted a 50 years celebration of Hip-Hop featuring Mufasa.

Marketing Director of Coca-Cola, Ramokone Ledwaba, who spoke to SlikourOnLife at the event, said Sprite Limelight is a docu-series platform. “We partnered with some major global artists, locally we partnered with Cassper Nyovest, our very own,” she said. 

The brand also shared that it had teamed up with OneRepublic lead singer and multi Grammy Award-winning songwriter Ryan Tedder to spearhead the campaign by creating the hook and the theme for this particular season which brought to life the song ’Soul’ that Cassper Nyovest performed during the event. The crowd erupted in cheers, appreciating the heartfelt performance and the story behind the song. 

 “I literally put my heart and soul into this song and I hope you also receive it that way,” Cassper said at the event. 

As the night progressed, Mufasa treated the crowd to a surprise. He introduced Maglera Doe Boy, and together, they delivered a scorching performance of an unreleased single from Cassper Nyovest’s upcoming album ‘Solomon’, releasing on July 28. 

The Drill track drove the crowd insane, leaving fans eagerly anticipating its official release.
