Dope Saint Jude redefines and claims the word ‘Alphas’ with her new single which has recently been released together with the visuals.
The track ‘Alphas’ subverts the ‘alpha male’ rhetoric that has dominated the internet for the last few years.
This mischievous song showcases a cheeky attitude towards heteronormativity. It redefines what ‘alpha’ means by playfully suggesting that an Alpha is in fact someone who can support, be equal to, and grow with a strong partner.
‘Alphas’ celebrates equal partnerships and argues that true power is in the ability to rise up together.
“I wanted to make a statement without taking myself too seriously. I find the “Alpha Male” rhetoric so absurd at times and I wanted to make my commentary without getting too worked up about it. So I made a song that calls that kind of thing out,” says Dope Saint Jude.
The 'Alphas' music video features an eclectic cast of Cape Town’s young, artistic scene. Dope Saint Jude put out a call looking for bold, fierce members of the queer community who may want to feature in the video.
