Listen To Bongeziwe Mabandla’s New Album ‘amaXesha’

By @AtlehangMoloi on 05/05/2023 in Projects You Should Hear

Bongeziwe Mabandla is back with a new album. ‘amaXesha’ is the third album in which the artist works with producer and drummer Tiago Correria-Paulo (Tumi And The Volume, 340ML). As a result, Bongeziwe’s deeply soulful and oft sorrowful voice is drenched in some electronic sonics making for a satisfying listen.

“I think we are getting to know each other more and more,” Correia-Paulo told Apple Music in the album’s liner notes. “He trusts in my decisions more and more. And I trust his decisions in terms of lyrics. We have less and less creative arguments.”

On ‘amaXesha’, Bongeziwe continues to explore love, a theme that defined his previous album, ‘Iimini’. “This album is almost like a continuation of that album,” Mabandla told the streaming platform. “I explore the ongoing story of love and finding a soulmate and being in love—and also the heartache that comes with that.”

‘amaXesha’ comes with 14 tracks, with several interludes before and after some songs proving the improved artist-producer chemistry between the two musicians.

In his COLORS debut, Bongeziwe performed the single ‘sisahleleleni (I)’. An upbeat B-side of the song titled ‘sisahleleleni (ii)’ appears on the album.
