You know whenever you hear the tag “It’s Kel-P vibes”, an Aforbeats hit is about to connect with your eardrums. Kel-P has crafted hits for the biggest Afrobeats artists such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Rema, Fireboy DML, Adekunle Gold, and even the likes of Skip Marley and Angelique Kidjo.
But Kel-P wants more than just being a Grammy Award-winning producer, he also wants a seat at the artist table. He recently released his first single as an artist ‘One More Night’ which will be on his upcoming debut EP ‘Bully Season Vol. 1’ which will consist of five songs and is due for a February release. Kel-P describes the project as “daring, colourful, and sexy” which you’ll understand as soon as you press play on the lead single.
‘One More Night’ samples Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s 2000s juggernaut ‘Dilemma’ (aka ‘Nelly I’). The producer uses the song’s melody and defining “ah” as a frame for the bouncy beat which also takes inspiration from Afrobeats’ ancestor, dancehall. He embellishes the instrumental with a selection of synths and laces it with lightly auto-tuned vocals. It’s the kind of song that will be stuck on repeat several times.
Listen to Kel-P’s ‘One More Night’ below and keep an eye out for the ‘Bully Season Vol. 1’ EP next month.
