I first heard Aashiq Solomon on AFRIKA's "TORO" project and I really enjoyed his feature, so naturally, I was keen to get into his solo effort titled "Stilpain". Admittedly, it took me a while to consume the mixtape but I got into it after a couple of days. The mixtape opens with the song "Pure O" and "Part 2", which set the tone of the mixtape. These 2 two songs are my favourite 'versions' of Aashiq Solomons because he can express the 'darkness' he is going through whilst still maintaining melodies that are pleasant on the ear.
As you dig further into the mixtape, it gets progressively darker and personal with songs like "Moshpit Prayers", "DOH" and "Goblin Hour" tethering on the outskirts of trap. Although I would point to "Pure O" and "Part 2" as standouts on this mixtape, "Red Cup" is a personal favourite because I really enjoy how he used his voice to enhance the theme behind the song - if you know you know.
