4 Essentials For Submitting Your Music To Slikouronlife

We get a truckload of submissions at Slikouronlife and having been in the trenches of the email inbox, I've come to realise that most people don't know what to include in their submissions. Don't feel bad because no one really tells you how to go about submitting your music. So in our continued effort to empower artists, we hooked you up with a quick guide to help you out. 

Email etiquette 

We understand that you may be a rapper but you want to come off as professional and serious about your brand. Email is still considered a more formal channel of communication after all. DO NOT start your email saying 'yo' or anything of the sort, rather say Good morning/afternoon or even a simple Hi or Hello is perfectly acceptable. Please do include a SUBJECT that is short and relevant because your email is amongst hundreds or even thousands of others. Below is a skeleton you can use. 

Good afternoon Slikouronlife team, 

I trust this email finds you well. I would like to submit my song/EP/album for consideration for a website feature and/or playlisting. Please see the cover art and press images attached below. I hope to hear from your team soon.

Attachments and links

The idea behind a submission is to bring the readers attention to your music so it makes sense that you provide everything related to your music. Attach the cover art for your submission as well as promotional images of yourself that we can use. If your music is already published then include links to your music, if not, provide an alternative link to your music. Lastly, include your social media handles in the email. 

Bio

Personally, I don't like to read an artist bio in the body of an email because I feel like it's a lot of reading and besides, there is a document called an Electronic Press Kit(EPK) where information like bio's, achievements and other placements are meant to be included. Press Release 

A press release is a written document that a blog can publish, hence the name. It is useful if you want to get a certain narrative out there. Sometimes bloggers may enjoy your music but they don't have the capacity to sit down and write about it and that is when a press release can come in handy.
