First Impression of @HaloYagami 'Usiba' EP

By @Lesiba on 01/14/2022 in Projects You Should Hear

Halo Yagami is quite an interesting and unique artist to listen to because his sound is grounded in South African sounds. Having heard 'Amahloni', I was curious to hear what an EP from him would sound like. The EP kicks off with 'My Money' with Marcus Harvey whose vocals fit like a glove on top of the eery sounding production. The rhythm of the song feels like it's intentionally off. When listening to the song you never quite know where it's going and it was a nice touch paired with those eery sounds throughout. He follows that up with the song 'Hooked On You'.  I like how he delivered his vocals on this song because you can feel the emotion in it. I was so caught up in the vibe of the song I didn't notice it was 4 minutes long until I started making notes about the EP. Halo Yagami closes the EP with 'Gologo' with Maglera Doe Boy, which is my personal favourite. The song has a kind of Kwaito bounce and rhythm to it and Halo Yagami's back and forth with Maglera Doe Boy is what makes the song so great. Overall I'm really impressed with Halo Yagami and he is proving to be one of the more unique talents in the scene right now.
