Sometimes I don't like the way I consume music. I'm such a sucker for vibes that I feel music more than I hear it. That ends up in me falling in love with how a song sounds and how an artist goes about saying the things they say rather than what they say. Sure, you might not think that's such a bad thing because most music today focuses on being melodic with people having very little patience for messages, which is a problem most rappers face. Huey's music lies in the sweet spot of rappers that provide music that is equally adept on both ends of the spectrum. 'Iceberg Estate' opens with the appropriately titled 'The Icyy Chant'. It speaks to the meaning behind the music which I made I conscious effort to try and understand because I often get lost in the vibe of Huey's music.
The project has a noticeably colder tone with Huey taking a 180 from the story he presented on summr;grace. I mean, I don't think it can get much colder than "don't leave a message. I won't get back to you" which is by far my favourite moment on the project. Songs like 'Sleepwalking' and 'Palm Angels' are perhaps the 'darkest' moments on the project with Huey rapping like someone who has been hardened by the 'cold' world that we live in.
Huey closes off this project on an introspective note with 'Rhythm 0'. I really felt for Huey when he said he was disappointed by the reception of summr:grace. I feel I might have been guilty of not fully appreciating what Huey brings to the table conceptually and in his lyrics but I will say one thing. Huey always manages to take me into a new world with his music. His music is thematic and envokes a different emotion with each project he releases which is a testament to his talent.
