What Is An Electronic Press Kit & Why Every Artist Needs One

An electronic press kit is exactly what it sounds like… a press kit that is electronic. An EPK is like a one-stop for everything you have going on right now as an artist. I'm taking high res images, blurbs about your latest releases, links to your social media etc. Some EPK's might be fancier than others but in all honesty, a simple pdf document will do. The important part thing is to have everything a member of the press would need. It is especially useful when you are pitching your music to writers, playlist curators and compilers.

Artist Bio

This doesn't have to be super long. Describe yourself and your sound and that should be sufficient.

High Res Images

As a writer, I don’t like having to go back and forth with someone about which pictures I can use nor do I enjoy having to scroll through an artists social media page to find a picture that clearly shows their face. If you are an artist that has their own aesthetic then it would be worth your while to have images that you would prefer to use for an article. 

Press Release

If you are an artist that is big enough you can usually get a press release posted by a blog. Press releases ensure that the narrative of your song or project is portrayed the way in which you want it to. 

Quotes About Your Work

If you have had any other blogs written about you or industry professionals that have said something positive about your work then this is the place to include it. 

Social Media Links 

Again this is just about having everything in one place. Blogs usually tag an artist that they write about on social media, so just make it easy for the blogs to interact with you. 

Links To Your Music 

And finally, you should definitely have links to your music. Blogs like to embed your music in their posts so definitely have the links to your music somewhere in your EPK.
