LXRDMORDECAI’S producer, LLYD reached out to me and said I should listen to a song called 'Yolo'. From the jump, I was enamoured with the sound. It was an intense mix of vibes from different regions and LXRDMORDECAI’s non-stop flow meshed perfectly with the production. Having listened to the whole EP, I can tell you that 'Yolo' is a taste of what this EP has to offer. This mesh of tropical sounds and Hip Hop continues on the appropriately titled 'Pablo' as well as 'Red!', which is one of the more unique takes on grime that I have heard in a while.
Songs like 'NoLove' and 'Hamba’nam' take on a less aggressive sound. 'NoLove' is a straight-up R&B song that I didn't see coming from LXRDMORDECAI but I suppose he had to have at least one of this on the EP but I was more impressed with his performance on 'Hamba’nam'.
But all of these songs feel like LXRDMORDECAI was just warming up. There are some truly special songs on this EP. 'TOO MUCH' and 'How Many Times' left a huge impression on me. Those two songs make me think of the phrase that is synonymous with Kenny Beats ‘The Cave’ Show - “Don’t overthink shit”. The songs have a darker mood in comparison to songs like Yolo or Pablo. I'm finding it difficult to find the right words to describe these songs to you but it’s the type of vibe I can't get from any other artist. Special.
LXRDMORDECAI closes the EP with 'Anginakinga' which is a mix of Caribbean sounds, African percussions and vocals. Artists like LXRDMORDECAI are what I’d love to see a lot more of. Also, a super producer like LLYD in your corner helps a whole lot too. Stream ‘East End’ EP.
