LuMai is someone I recently found out about and I have been patiently waiting for her to release this single. The sound LuMai went for on 'Probation' has been done before but it hasn't been executed all that well by artists in the country. With the rise of Afrobeats, almost every artist has inevitably tried their hand in the genre but very few of them ever sound comfortable or like they truly belong in the genre. It always sounds like their best attempt at impersonating someone who does Afrobeats. That's what makes LuMai such an enjoyable listen. 'Probation' doesn't sound forced. You get the feeling that she enjoys listening to the type of music she's making. She clearly has an ear for the melodic nature of the genre and that makes her stand out from the crowd of artists that are trying to ride the wave. Personally, I'm a fan. Stream 'Probation' below.
