Before I talk about 'Letters', I just want to tip my hat to Phiwo for successfully trolling me into believing that 'Letters' would have a total run time of 5 minutes:) Heading into this EP I was excited to finally hear Phiwo on her own. What would she talk about? How would she go about expressing herself on 'Letters'? She didn't disappoint with her debut EP at all. The opening two songs titled 'Keep That/Bring That' (featuring Miles) and 'Call Me' (featuring DoouShii) have a slight soulful feel to them, especially the former in both production and her delivery. With the production being so dominant on this EP, I love 'Caught Up' because Phiwo's songwriting ability gets a chance to stand out more in comparison to the previous songs. 'Caught Up' is the first time I've listened to a song with Phiwo and I'm not waiting for a beat drop or a featured artist to do something. The highlight of that song is Phiwo's delivery which is impossible not to mumble along to. With that being said, I think Phiwo is at her best on 'No Mistakes'. She brings together everything that makes her great. The production gives her enough room to play with her vocal range a bit more, but it has enough tempo for her to give us her trademark sing-rap flow. Stream Phiwo's debut EP, 'Letters' below.
