First Impressions of @marsbaby_'s Salem Album

By @Lesiba on 09/27/2021 in Projects You Should Hear

I had a tough time writing about Salem and it isn't because I think it's a bad album. I think it's great and Mars Baby continues the precedent set at Stay Low by delivering a high-quality unique body of work. I listened to the album 4 or 5 times and after every listen I was no closer to finding out exactly what Salem is about. I feel like Salem is meant to be felt more than it's heard. Mars Baby has a smooth high pitched voice and he pairs that with a simple rhyme scheme and it makes for an easy listen. He sounds almost nonchalant in his delivery but not completely void of emotion. His delivery complimented the production because it has so much going on, I don't feel confident in telling you what lane of alternative it belongs in. Mars Baby's Salem is like a stylistic piece. If Mars Baby's life is a movie, then Salem is the soundtrack. It's a peek into what it's like living in his head.
