Man what happened to us?
“Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfill it, or betray it.” - Frantz Fanon
Gender Based Violence. Cancel Culture. Corrupt Politicians. False Prophets. Afrophobia. Poverty, and so forth. From the struggle once faced by the generation of Blondie Makhene, right down to that of Blaklez. Confronting all that has and is deeply affecting us not only as a nation, but as a generation. A crisis, causing scars so deep, that no words can even begin to heal. But addressing them is a start, and with his art - Blaklez cries for our generation on his Zano featured song; "The Truth About Us." Unleashing the Rap Steve Biko, Blaklez does this on a Blondie Makhene struggle song "Hoya Rona (Magwala A Che Che)" sample which is produced by Thapelo Mashiane. Together, they ask the questions; Are we to be labelled as another lost generation? Is this "The Truth About Us?" Is this how we ought to be remembered? We're better than that. In the words of Zano; "KUMNYAMA KHANYISANI PHAKAMANI!"
