Although we may say that things have shifted, and it is energy that the people want to feel when they listen to music. Words still remain undefeated, and most of all, vital. Whether they remind you of a certain past or event, give you hope for the future, or rather, they comfort you, nothing is as important as words that have been said, as they can't be turned back. Lyrics form a major part of the rap element hip hop, and so does graffiti. Shining the light on graphic designer, illustrator, and animator Sibusiso Nkosi, otherwise known as Sbu Creative, as he designed a series demonstrating the lyrics that spoke to him.
"This is an illustrated series where I chose lyrics that spoke to me at different times in my life. The aim was to show appreciation to the artists for delivering those songs or verses and also tell my own story using each verse. Nine artists were selected and divided into different categories, three female rappers, three younger generation rappers and three older generation rappers. Hip-Hop music has been a part of my life since I was 10 years old and it felt right and fitting to use this genre for the series." - Sbu Creative
Featuring lyrics from Reason, Boity, Touchline, Nasty C, Rouge, AKA, Blaklez, A-Reece, as well as Nadia Nakai, appreciate hip hop in the art created by Sbu Creative below;
