@SizweMpofuWalsh Distinguishes Between Old And New South Africa On "Imbi Lendawo"

By @Nokulunga_Maqubela on 04/01/2019 in Watch

25 years of independence, what do we have to show for it? Coming from a strong history of colonisation, poverty and segregation. South Africa still bleeds from the affected wounds of apartheid. Not much has changed, they gave us parliament and kept the banks, the results are narrated in the everyday life of the black man and woman. Was the freedom worth it? Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh answers this question on his latest visuals of “Imbi Lendawo,” taken off the album Democracy & Delusion.

“And though political freedom was a lifeline/ the distance between Alex and Sandton is still a lifetime,” Sizwe echoes as he juxtapositions between the world of the rich and the poor residing in South Africa. The first and main priority being attacking poverty and deprivation, Sizwe quotes Nelson Mandela’s 1997 inauguration speech to further express the current situation we are living in.
