Premier @David_Makhura Highlights @KwestaDaKAR 's "Spirit" On His #GPSOPA19 Speech

Government: “A group of people that governs a community or unit. It sets and administers public policy and exercise executive, political and sovereign power through customs, institutions and laws within a state. A government can be classified into many types- democracy, republic, monarchy, aristocracy, and dictatorship are just a few.”

Living in a democratic state, the people have the privilege of choosing who they should be led by, and in essence, the people and the leaders govern to work together in decision making and driving the country. Gauteng Premier David Makhura invited 15 young influencers of different industries who are from the Gauteng province, to sit with him a day before his annual State of the Province Address, in attendance was artist Nelson Makamo, Zamantungwa Khumalo (Real Estate), Sibu Mabena, Slikour, and Kwesta. The main objective being collaboration, and the governments interest to know where the head-space of the youth is, what challenges they face, and how they can chip in to assist, the meeting seems to have been a fruitful one.

What a fulfilling way to spend my Sunday afternoon with some of the influential young people of Gauteng ahead of my State of the Province Address tomorrow.

A big chunk of the conversation was around challenges in the creative space faced by artists and entrepreneurs in that industry. Some of the players in that field included @nelsonmakamo @slikouronLife @theresho who highlighted some of the challenges and opportunities in the space

A highlight for the hip hop community was when the Premier used Kwesta's "Spirit" during his address to further elaborate on the type of spirit the people of the Gauteng province possess, that of seeking a hand instead of a handout from the government, as well as that of having no tolerance for government officials who have no sense of urgency. 

A young talented township musician from Katlehong, Kwesta, also grapples with the contradictions and challenges of urban life through his song, ‘Spirit’.
