Yugen Blakrok introduces us to Anima and Animus versions of herself in her pleasantly haunting visual for the brand new single, "Picture Box," lifted off her highly anticipated album, Anima Mysterium. After availing the pre-order some time back and recently sharing that the vinyl format of the album is also complete, she blesses us with a new release ahead of the project's arrival next week.
On "Picture Box" we travel through separate worlds, the natural and the trapped, as Yugen teleports to the modern day living room where the square box with a blinding light is the source of all kinds of entertainment and mass brainwashing. The irony in the video, I find, is that the TV is "not working" as you see it with an interrupted signal all throughout. The mysterious picture adds onto her album's title and articulately threaded aesthetics that explore the very essence of life and its parallels in many ways. There is more to unpack about this loaded, yet simple in many ways, motion picture but the crux of Yugen's important lament is that we need to re-evaluate our habits as beings on this earth paying attention to our consumption patterns as well as what we allow to influence our lives heavily. Tap into this gospel and awe at how well put together this music video is. Kudos to the team on every aspect of detail put into the film, it's mind blowing.
