Knock knock, is your mother home?
"No. Why?"
GOOD SHOT!
It's new music Friday and the GOATs, Skwatta Kamp finally unleash their much requested single titled Mama Akekho alongside Assessa and Payseen who add a youthful flair to the impeccably put together single. After watching them perform the song on numerous platforms, one couldn't help but feel left out as they start a party that feels like you ought to be invited to live on stage, now you can have it in your music collection as well.
You're going to love their sound evolution which is somehow still reminiscent of their core, authentic afro-influenced flavour. On Mama Akekho they bring out the tropics, the kasi, Africa's undeniable rhythm, and a tinge of kwaito with hip hop weaving everything together. The harmonies on this song will give you Jabu Khanyile and Bongo Maffin vibes with Assessa's gripping hook giving the song "that thing." It's one thing to want to call it a "come back," but it's very important to note that these are the originators and it's so impressive to hear them sounding as natural as they can be with the music they're making today. With all the phases that music has gone through in the past ±15 years of them being active, it's commendable for them to continue to carve their own sound that is not out of date nor trying too hard. Isssa pati and we're tearing the roof off before mama returns tomorrow!
