@Sonsofthe80s - 88 - 89 EP

By @Spokenpriestess on 03/02/2018 in Projects You Should Hear

Louis M Songz and Krswrd drop off a new EP titled 88-89 and it's something worth a listen. The project brings you closer to their lives as they tell stories of love, growing up, ambition, and passion in multiple ways throughout.

The opening track, Trumpets, is such a cheer giver unlike its follow up track on the list, Doing Better, which is a more reflective and sentimental track. That is followed by the familiar Ntombenhle which they dropped as a single a while back. There are so many fusion sounds on this EP which sports the duo's versatility quite well. The next track, Gimme Your Love, with Buffalo Souljah is something of a looker - if you actually could see sound. The song immediately grips you as soon as Buffalo opens with the hook. By now you're halfway through the project and are feeling like you're in a candy store with so many variations of sweets to try and pick from. As you keep walking, you don't know what cool thing you're going to bump into next. This is both good and bad, it all depends on how you listen to projects. The music is so insane, there's no doubt that these guys are on the ball when it comes to music making.

You quickly hop into a party with Turn Up as you come off the love train in the previous track. The vocals on the hook are also so pleasant to listen and dance to. YIKES! These guys got mad flavour yo! The playlist seeps into Bounce which flows really well off the foot of Turn Up as it sounds like the next chapter of the party. As we near the end of the project, we get yet another love song in You Should Know This, only this time it's got intensely awesome vapours all over it. This music is so impressive, and mad hooking. The fellas also know how to pick the perfect vocalists and features that take their songs right off the roof. Once again, the hook by Cue is splendid and has you feeling all blushy (if you're a girl). The curtain closes on Show Me which is something unexpectable as a closer, it's very afrocentric yet the production is intergalactic with that jumping xylophone throughout the beat. It's definitely within their sound frame but there's something different about it. We love it either way.

Sons Of The Eighties are musical wonders. Words cannot express how impressed I am with the sounds coming out of this EP. The music is universal, inviting, very pleasant, and it really evokes good feelings only. I would rearrange the playlist differently for a more cohesive flow but either than that, this is pure black boy magic.
