YoungstaCpt's year is definitely off to a great start just after the rapper was awarded Best Lyricist at last year's South African Hip Hop Awards. The rapper is said to be working on his forthcoming mixtape AND an album, his first projects for the year. He also just dropped #OWN2018 and just announced to be featured in a new True Music Africa documentary which is a collaboration between The Boiler Room and Ballentine's Scotch Whisky. The documentary follows Youngsta as well as K-$, Dope Saint Jude, Aux Womdantso and Dj Lyle for a "glimpse into what it takes to make it in The Mother City." The artists get to tell their unfiltered stories while also encouraging other aspiring artists to go after their dreams.
The documentary is part of a four-city tour across Africa and is mainly centered around giving local underground artists an opportunity to break through globally via the international brands behind them. This first episode highlights the artist mentality in Cape Town so well and you can definitely attest to the growth of independent artists in the city these past few years. One thing that also sticks out is their passion for social commentary, whether you're a DJ or a rapper, they all champion the stories of their communities and act as a mouthpiece for their people's circumstances. This is something very admirable about Capetonian artists. Check out the episode and feel the pride too!
