Zambia's own PatricKxxLee drops off a nine-track compilation called Dead By Dawn The Old Me Is Gone, consisting of some of the music he previously recorded. The artist has been working hard on his music and is currently in Hong Kong for a creative residency after relocating from Jo'burg. Some of the songs here were recorded way before he had dropped his Diary Of An Arsonist project, he's already working on another project that he plans to finish while still in China - talk about Hong Kong state of mind.
Back to the compilation, Dead By Dawn The Old Me Is Gone is quite gloomy, to say the least. Patrick's music is like nothing I've ever heard in the country, his songs are above average and to say he does pop is truly far-fetched - he's an African rockstar. Come to think of it, he makes the kind of music you'd normally hear in anime, picked this up while listening to Souichiro and learning that it's the name of an anime character. The songs have a really heavy and dreary production having Patrick transition from singing to rapping from song to song. This is an impressive body of work and I appreciate how well Patrick continuously manages to stand out from his peers in the music industry, definitely looking forward to hearing the next project - zuò dé hǎo (that's "well done" in Chinese).
