@Lemonka ft @bakwild2 - 10111 #TBT

By @Lenoir on 11/09/2017 in Music

I remember growing up only listening to South African Hip Hop. Late 2012 Dj Lemonka released his highly anticipated mixtape, Motswako Tape Volume 1 with a very impressive list of features including Khuli Chana, HHP and JR. One of the most popular and most controversial tracks on the tape came from Mo'lemi, a track titled 10111 which addressed police brutality and racial injustice in the country. The track was literally played at every corner wherever you went and coming from a small town in the North West where Motswako music dominates - the track quickly became a street anthem. "O ba tshabe mapodisa, batla go bofa ka ditshipi" (Be fearful of the police, they'll handcuff you). Lemonka later released the second volume of the tape and also announced earlier this year that Motswako Tape volume 3 is in the works.

For the time he's been in the game, Mo'lemi's released three studio albums namely Amantsi, Motzamai: Rebel Without A Pause and A Sia. I strongly feel the need to correct claims of Mo'lemi retiring from making music to become a full-time farmer. First of all, he was a farmer before he started making music, hence the name. Also, he did not retire from making music (we wouldn't allow this), he directed his focus to something more profitable - agriculture. Really looking forward to seeing Mo'lemi at this year's Maftown Heights, PULA!
