@djsupernova U(SA) @usadocuseries Episode 7: Seed

By @Lenoir on 11/03/2017 in Watch

We've reached the end of Dj Supernova's U(SA) docu-series, six episodes in the bag and we made it to the seventh and final one. It's been quite a journey, I speak for myself when I say that I've learned quite a lot in the previous episodes, from Supernova and the people he's interviewed. As short as the episodes were, they were really informative and helped the viewer understand were their favourite musicians come from in a music perspective. Since the very first episode, Supernova had since set his point clear of his hopes for the docu-series. He spoke about the evolution of Hip Hop and how artists' surroundings normally inspire their music, he would later have SPHEctacula trace back to his come up also having him discuss his musical influences. Supernova would then discuss what impacted OkMalumKoolKat and Khuli Chana musically, he'd then have a chat with Stilo Magolide about how he fuses the sounds in his music. He then built up to discuss how a musician needs to be persistent in his craft before he went on to talk to Riky Rick about bouncing back from difficult times.

For the 7th episode, Supernova focuses on the seed of SA Hip Hop and he has a chat with Da L.E.S about how he came into the game as well as how living in the states influenced his love for the music. L.E.S is probably one of the very few people who can actually say that he's African American and unlike other South African rappers who started rapping in English but went on to rap in their indigenous languages, L.E.S has always rapped in English making it easier for other rappers to do so as well. This was a time before North God dropped, fast forward to now he's dropped High Level and is on tour. A big shout out to Supernova for working on trying to bridge the gap between African and American artists and more especially for taking the time to explore the differences.
