@Blaklez - Cool Slaves

By @Lenoir on 09/23/2017 in Music Video

After a long wait, we finally get the music video for the Rap Steve Biko's Cool Slaves. The visuals have been complete for a few days now but the release had to be postponed because the message needed people's undivided attention, admirable. The beginning is quite heartwarming as we see a clip of Lez and his daughter being interviewed before they sing Get Up, Stand Up by the late Bob Marley. The clip then fades and Cool Slaves immediately plays as Jabu pulls up into a room filled with pieces of art and takes his paint brushes out to work on some art of his own. What stands out to me here is the idea of overcoming one's obstacles, something that Lez has always worked on helping people achieve through his music. Between scenes of Jabu hard at work and Blaklez wandering the room admiring the art, some animation comes into play and we also get another artist sketching a picture of Lez - quite fitting for the artistic feel of the whole video. Towards the end, he interviews Jabu and the latter speaks about being grateful for life besides his obstacles. Who is chopping the damn onions?

"It's all about not giving up, it's all about believing that there's a better future and there's hope."
